These pictures are all from the canyon floor.
We then followed the trail back up up up until we were hiking above the canyon. Often times, you couldn't even see the canyon. It was like any old forest trail.
We even passed a spot that was once an old homestead. When all this land became a state park, there were several old vehicles abandoned there. The decision was made to just leave all the vehicles where they were, as some animals had started using them as a habitat, plus it would cause a lot of damage to the area to try to remove all of them.
We finally got to the part of the hike (3+ miles altogether, although there was a 7+ mile hike too... Whichever part you went on, you had to sign in and sign back out when you were done) where we got the best views of the canyon. Breathtaking! Hard to believe this was caused by mistake!
If you're ever in the area, it's worth the stop. Be sure you have $5.00 with you, for the state park fee. And wear good hiking shoes! The ups and downs are pretty steep.
