Kayaking to Atsena Otie Key

Today we kayaked out to Atsena Otie Key, offshore from Cedar Key.  It was the original location of the town of Cedar Key, and also the Faber Pencil Mill.  A couple of hurricanes in the late 1890's destroyed almost everything, and the town was moved to its current location.  We found a hiking trail that took us to the old cemetery, and also past some of the leftover foundation ruins of the pencil factory.  It is a beautiful, natural island.  I'm going to mostly just post the pictures we all took today.

In all it was about a 4 mile kayak trip to go to the island, go around it, and get back to Cedar key.  A three hour tour....

There it is, in the distance!

Anyone a "Lost" fan???

We took a break to eat our lunches that we packed.
No Brad... I packed you a sandwich.
Then we continued on around the island by kayak.
We made it back!!
A really great day, but boy, did I need a nap when we got back!

Tonight's sunset
