Last day in Perdido Key/Pensacola/Orange Beach

This was a beautiful last day in the area.  We lazied around the RV this morning, and then met Bruce and Roberta, and Dan and Carol, over in Foley to eat at Lambert's Cafe.  I couldn't not eat at the one Lambert's I haven't been to!
We caught some rolls, enjoyed the "pass arounds" of fried okra, fried potatoes, macaroni and tomatoes, black-eyed peas, and of course, the throwed rolls, with some molasses.
This is the carnage left after lunch.
After lunch, we decided we just had to spend one more afternoon with the Winslows and Elgerts, so we met them at their condo and enjoyed a few laps around the lazy river.  It is on top of the parking garage at their condo.
The pool
The view out to the gulf
And here we go along the lazy river
A fun day.  Now we are just hanging around the campground, taking it easy, ready to pack it all up and move on to Cedar Key tomorrow with Bruce and Roberta.

Super Sunday!

We had such a great day today!  We started out by meeting Dan and Carol for church services at the FloraBama.  I have to admit, I didn't really know what to expect from a church service in a bar, but it was one of the most meaningful services I've been to in quite awhile.  The music was awesome, and so was the message, which was delivered by a guy with a long red beard, a ball cap on backwards, tattooed sleeves on both arms, and wearing shorts and a t-shirt.  But boy, did he know how to connect.

The music was great too.  If you didn't listen to the words, you might think it was any other band they have playing there nightly.
We liked the front of the hymnals.
And the note on the bottom of this sign.
This was interesting... They served communion at the very end, and after you took communion, you just continued on out.  They also didn't pass an offering plate, but had a tackle box at the exits, and you were free to donate or not.

This is the view that greeted us as we left the service.
They also broadcast the service on the speakers out on the beach, so you could sit on the sand and listen out there if you wanted to.

We came back home after church and had time to take Budger for a short 2 mile walk before meeting the Elgerts and Winslows at the Fisherman's Corner for brunch.  Brad had lunch, and he got their Almost World Famous Seafood Gumbo.
I had the "Lost Bread" which was French toast topped with a Chantilly cream sauce, with fresh fruit and bacon.  Yum!
And here's the 6 of us.  Today is the last time we'll all be together until Brad and I go up to Michigan this summer.

When we left Fisherman's Corner, we all headed to the Gulf Islands National Seashore, which is just a few minutes from our park and Fisherman's Corner.  It was our first chance to use our National Parks passport that Jordan and Abby had given us for Christmas.  It was a beautiful day!
There's Brad and Ed.
Brad and me with Dan and Carol.

This crane was just walking along the beach, just like we were.
Our National Seashore beach pic.
We've got a few more things planned for tomorrow before we head out to Cedar Key with Bruce and Roberta on Tuesday!

*************************
I was ready to settle in for the evening, but Brad was ready to go find some more live music.  We went to The Point and caught their open mic night, along with some dinner.

Brad had a grilled chicken breast sandwich.
And I got a crab cake sandwich.

We shared some jalapeƱo poppers.

Lots of good music.  We've seen some of these people at other venues around here.
One of the groups is sponsored by a guy out of Louisiana, and his company makes this hot sauce, and they were giving it out.  So we have two new bottles of Louisiana hot sauce.
It was a little chilly outside... We've got our table pulled up as close to the fire pit as we can get it!

Auto and craft show

We went to The Wharf with Peggy and Ed today for a car and craft show.  It turned out to be a wonderful day to be outside enjoying the sunshine... It had started out kind of chilly this morning.

Here's some of the cars we saw.  So pretty!
Peggy and I thought about taking a spin in this one.  Actually, it's very close to the one she has back in Hubbard Lake.
This looked like fun!  I've seen these bubble things before, but never on water.
And lookie what I found at one of the craft vendors!!  They had to come home with me.
We finished up the day with some spaghetti back at Peggy and Ed's, and then some Mexican Train.  They taught us a new way to play it, and it was pretty fun, and way more challenging, so I think we're going to keep playing it that way.  Watch out when you come to visit us, Sean and Kara!!

Sticking close to "home"

We're still trying to kick the crud, so we kept it pretty close to home today.  We did get out for a walk this morning with Budger, and saw some of the areas they were burning yesterday.  Brad played guitar this afternoon while I napped.  This evening we decided to bust out of the park for a bit for dinner.  We went to Trigger's Seafood, which is just outside the state park.  We pass it every time we leave the park, so we decided to try it out.  I'm so glad we did!

Brad got the grilled tuna, hushpuppies, gumbo, and onion rings.  He had already devoured one of the hushpuppies and part of the tuna before I got the camera going.
I got the grilled Mahi Mahi, with a salad, hushpuppies, and cheese grits.
This may have been the best meal we've had here!

We've got a lot to squeeze in, in the last 3 days we have here.  We move on the Cedar Key, FL on Tuesday.

Smoky walk

After lazing around most of the morning, we set out on a walk on the road that winds through the park, intending to cut in on one of the paths, but most were closed due to some prescribed burning the Rangers were doing.  It made part of our walk a little smoky, but they seemed to be keeping it well contained, because, although we could hear the crackling of dead leaves and brush burning, we couldn't ever see any flames.  Well, Brad did, a little, at one point, but I wasn't tall enough to see it.
Even from the top of the observation tower, there weren't any flames visible.
This is back on the road behind our campsite.
And there's our RV, through the wood.

Tonight we went to eat at Vallarta Mexican Restaurant.  So good.  It was All Day Margarita day today... Not sure what that meant, but this was my margarita.
Brad had his usual taco salad.
And I had a burrito with fajita beef.  Oh so Good!
Just settling in for an evening of Idol now.  I think this may be the best season in quite a long while.
