Valentine's Day

After a pretty full first day-and-a-half here at Breaux Bridge, we slept in a bit this morning, and Peggy and Ted picked us up for a Valentine's Day brunch in Arnaudville at the Little Big Cup, a place that started out as a small coffee house, but is now a full restaurant.  They had a wonderful buffet with breakfast foods and lots of traditional local lunch items to choose from.  Where else can you enjoy sitting outside on the patio by the bayou on Valentine's Day, enjoying creme brûlée French toast with bacon and sausage, along with gumbo and jambalaya and ribs, sipping on a mimosa!
Then we drove in to Lafayette to see the massive live oak at a church there.  This thing is humongous!  Along the lines of the ones around the Alamo, if you've ever been there.
Then we headed to Vermilionville.
"Opened in 1990, Vermilionville is a living history museum and folklife park that promotes and propagates the cultural resources of the Acadian, Native American, and Creole people – from the time period 1765 to 1890. The park sits on a 23-acre site on the banks of the Bayou Vermilion with 19 attractions, including seven restored original homes with more than 13 local artisans that provide demonstrations on a variety of essential crafts performed by the early settlers."
Very cool to read about the early people and buildings of this area, and the different cultural influences that were brought in.  It was also good to walk off a bit of that brunch from earlier!

We all went home and rested up a bit this afternoon, and then met up at Pont Breaux for one last meal together before Peggy and Ted both take off tomorrow for their other lives away from Breaux Bridge.  Brad and I are still here till Tuesday morning... I think we'll need Monday to rest up!  We sure have had fun, and it was great to have a couple of "locals" to show us around and introduce us to all the cool places to eat and have fun around this area!

One last pic with Peggy
I had to try out some of this sauce... Oh, so yummy!  I had to bring home a bottle.

This is what 4 pounds of crawfish looks like
Brad decided to go for some gumbo
I had some fried shrimp
At the top of the picture is what the shells from 8 pounds of crawfish looks like!
Peggy's about done
What an amazing time we've had here!  The weather has been beautiful, and Peggy and Ted sure gave us the full Breaux Bridge experience.  We'll be back!

  1. I had such a good time!! Thank you for coming to visit bayou country! So glad we got to hear a lot of good music, and so many different kinds (I think Sirius Plan was my favorite of the weekend). You two are such fun people and so easy to be around. Little Girl is going to miss her new boyfriend, Budger. Hope to see you both again soon!

    1. We can't thank you and Ted enough for showing us around and helping us take in the full experience that is Breaux Bridge. Tell Little Girl that Budger misses her, but we'll be back to see her again!

(I loved Sirius Plan too! Brad was looking up their music last night!)
