Little Elm RV Park, Laverne, OK

We had intended to stop in Enid, Oklahoma, where I was born, and lived there again in elementary school... But the park we wanted was full when I called, so we decided to keep on going.  We finally decided to stop in Laverne, OK.  We're not far from Jordan and Abby, maybe a couple of hours, but we had already been on the road for over 6 hours, and that's about Brad's limit when pulling the RV.

There is nothing fancy at all about this park... When I called the guy said he'd be around to collect our money when he got off work about 5:30, unless I wanted to just fill out the paperwork and drop the money in the box.  But I couldn't find the box!  So he came by.  Very pleasant guy.  The park is pretty much just a couple of vacant lots by the road, but it's pretty quiet, and with our Passport America membership, just $11.50 for the night, so well worth it to park and get water, electric, sewer, and wifi for the night.  We've found that our Passport America membership really pays off on these one-night stays when we're traveling.  We've had a few that have been at or under $15.00 for the night.  Some have been really nice parks!

So the most we could find out about Laverne, Oklahoma, is that the population is about 1100, and the 1967 Miss America, Jane Jayroe, is from here.  There's a metal arch going over the highway through town declaring it the hometown of Miss America, and one of the streets is named after her.

We went to eat at the Brandin' Iron, a bar and grill in town, which we had heard was very good, and we weren't disappointed!

Settling in for the night, and looking forward to being able to take it easy in the morning before hitting the road.

This was kind of cool... These pictures are from the park where we stayed last night, in Checotah.  I didn't notice them till this morning.  This is the storm shelter in the park (which was right by our RV spot).  Somebody did some nice work!
