Cameron (AZ) Trading Post

We are stopped for the next two nights at Cameron Trading Post RV Park.  We had a pretty easy drive from Aztec NM today.
One thing we realized early, though, was that if you see a decent place to stop... Stop!  Gas stations are few and far between!  We saw a lot of really beautiful scenery, but I didn't get any pictures, because we were too busy saying, "Ooh, look at that!  Oh goodness, look at THAT!!"  And then there was a lot of wide open land, something I wouldn't have guessed in Arizona.

We've also discovered, in this part of Arizona, anyway, that is is REALLY WINDY!!!  Brad was fighting the wind the whole drive, and there were lots of places where dust devils were kicking up all over.

The Cameron Trading Post was established in 1915, and it was an important commerce center for the Native American people who lived nearby.  Today, the trading post has all kinds of hand-made items to buy, from pottery to baskets to jewelry.
Cameron is also situated near the southern rim of the Grand Canyon, which we'll be exploring tomorrow!!  I'm so excited!!

Here we are, parked at the RV park.
The walkway under the highway to get to the Trading Post, where we needed to check in.
I seriously want this on the side of our next house!
This is the old Cameron Suspension Bridge, which crosses the Little Colorado River, right by our park.  It was built in 1911 by the Midland Bridge Company of KCMO.  When built, it was the longest suspension span west of the Mississippi.  It was damaged in 1937 by an overload of sheep!!!  It was repaired, and was the main highway bridge until the new bridge was built in 1959.  Now it carries a natural gas pipeline.
This is our preview to the Grand Canyon tomorrow.
We're just relaxing and listening to ballgames tonight.  We have another 25 hour day today, because this part of Arizona doesn't follow Daylight Savings Time, so we are now 3 hours behind our Michigan friends, and 2 hours behind the Central Time people.

Ooh!!  And I got to scratch off a new state today!!  This will be the last new state, for awhile.
We've also discovered that the whole northern part of Arizona is almost a blackout zone for Verizon.  We've got no wifi here, and very sketchy signal, which goes from LTE and 2 bars, to 1x and almost nothing.  So if I don't get back to you right away, we're in the "almost nothing" zone.  I'll be surprised if this even posts!!
