Pilares Canyon Arches

Today we decided to head back out to search for arches.  There were 4 specific arches we were looking for, and we managed to find all four, although there are 16 more to be found in this canyon.

The first one we found is called Peephole Arch.
It was really easy to find, and the hike up to it wasn't too bad either.
Peep!!!
The next one we found is called Petroglyph Arch, named for the petroglyphs on the side.
A small little crawl space near the bottom.
Next up was Rooftop Arch.  This one was a little harder to spot, because you have to drive past it then look backwards to see it.
We didn't even try to get up to this one!
The last one we were looking for is called Two Cracks.  The directions said we'd have to park at a rock tower, hike 200 yards, and ascend a steep 100 foot hill, and then the arch could be seen to the north.  So we parked at this "rock tower", hiked into this canyon until we felt we'd gone at least 200 yards, but never could see anything that might be a 100 ft hill.  I mean, we were going up and down and through scrub brush and in an arroyo, but we really couldn't see what this hill might be.

We finally decided to call it a day at 75%, and headed back to the truck.  As we were passing the rock tower we had parked by, I looked up and said, "Hey, here's a little arch in this..."

And Brad realized it was what we had been looking for... Two Cracks.  There is kind of a 3-way tunnel going through it.
From inside
I can't believe we walked right past it the first time... We were right beside that fence you can see, but we weren't even looking in this direction, because we supposedly had to hike in 200 yards.  So I don't know who wrote these directions, but they played a big joke on us!  I'm just glad we found it.  We haven't had many 100% days!

Driving back out, we spotted this formation... Looks like a cartoon guy, sitting down.
Oh!  And I found this bottle.  It says "Listerine" and "Lambert Pharmical Co." on it.  Pretty cool!!
This is what the sun/sky looked liked when we set out.
The ring around the sun looked like a rainbow!
