Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

Today we visited the Cape Hatteras lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse in the US.  It was made with more than 1.2 million bricks, stands 187 ft tall, and has 257 steps.  We climbed every one of those... Whew! I'm sure our parents are glad we didn't get married at the top of this lighthouse!  The Tybee Island lighthouse "only" has 178.
This is where you enter the lighthouse.
Views on the way up.

The light
This view shows the path the lighthouse took in 1999.  The naturally shifting sands of the Outer Banks had gradually been swept away from the lighthouse, making it dangerously close to the ocean.  It was moved in 23 days to its current location, so it now stands about as far from the water as it originally did.
Heading back down!

Initial weather forecasts for today were for rain all day, but when we got up this morning, it showed no rain till about 3:00, and that's exactly what happened... Rain for an hour or two this afternoon, then it stopped.  We decided to go check out one of the nearby restaurants that we could walk to.  The BBQ restaurant, we found out, closes at 3:00 every day (however, we met the owner later, and he said you can call during their open hours, and come pick up your dinner anytime in the evening!).  So we decided to stop in to the High Moon Saloon for a drink, and the bartender said we could go next door to the Burger Burger place, order your food, and they'd bring it over to the bar for you.  So that's what we did!

Yummy cowboy burger with onion rings and BBQ sauce.
Brad had some wings.
The drinks were pretty good too.  Brad said they made an especially good Bud Light.
The bar is a cute place, with a bar that winds all around the place, and a cute sitting area with a couch and chairs.
This is Slim.  He keeps an eye on things.
The High Moon has live music later in the week, so I have a feeling we'll be returning.
