Vagabond RV Resort, Rapid River MI

We headed north to go south today.  We decided to drive up along Lake Huron, across the Mackinac Bridge, and across the top of Lake Michigan.  It's a beautiful drive, and way less stressful than trying to navigate along the south side of Lake Michigan and the Chicago and Gary IN area.

This was our route for today.
Of course, this meant a fun drive across the Mackinac Bridge.
Oh goodie... Road construction on the bridge.
Mackinac Island
View of Lake Michigan as we drove west in the UP.
Where we are staying is on a peninsula between two bays at the top of Lake Michigan.
Nice little RV park.
Just down this path at the park is Little Bay de Noc, part of Lake Michigan.
Cut little cabins owned by the RV park, right on the water.
We were standing on the dock, enjoying the view, and suddenly heard a SPLASH!!  Budger was REALLY wanting the fish he saw swimming around.  I was so surprised, I didn't get a picture, but here he is shaking off right after Brad rescued him.
At the end of the peninsula we're on is a lighthouse, so we just had to go find it.  The last couple of miles was an interesting drive.
And there it is!
It's a really short lighthouse, only 2 or 3 stories tall.  Technically a light station, I guess.
Looking up!

A little history about it.
When we got to the top, we could see the new lighthouse that is 6 miles to the south.
Very rocky shoreline.
Looking back at the lighthouse from the shore.
What's left of the foundation of the keeper's quarters.
I thought this was interesting.
Next we drove in to Rapid River to check out the Swallow Inn.  It has several claims to fame, but we wanted to visit it because a scene from the movie "Escanaba in da Moonlight" was filmed here.
Cool interior
And when in Rome... You have to eat a Yooper Pastie.
We walked back down to the water to watch the sunset this evening... It's been awhile since we've been able to see the sunset over the water.
