Lift Off!! Day 1: Wilderness Campground in Dundee, Michigan

We set off from Hubbard Lake this morning about 8:30, right on schedule.  The first day's drive went really well.  We just planned a short drive on each of these first few days, so we have time to check out the surrounding area each day.

Here we are, ready to go!

This first night on the Great Bachelor Gypsy Adventure is at Dundee, Michigan, at the Wilderness Campground.  This is a cute little campground, nothing fancy, but very neat and clean and quiet.

Bumper sticker they gave us when we checked in:

This is at the pond, in the center of the park.  We are standing on the long skinny island in the middle.  The RV's we can see in this direction all seem to be permanent ones, since they all have porches or decks built out front.

Our RV is wa-a-a-ay over there.

Budger thought maybe these ducks wanted to get to know him better.

Cute bridge to get to the island

And guess what just happens to be in Dundee, Michigan??

A perfect gift for our RV!!

Day 1 has gone well.  Once we got here, we kind of wished we had planned to stay 2 nights at this first place, just to be able to take a deep breath and relax.  We've been go-go-going for so long now.  The short drive today, and again for the next two days, will help though.  We're both pretty relaxed in our recliners, and Hank, Budger, and Bo seem pretty content.

  1. Bon voyage!
Have you booked ahead for a certain period or just going to let the wind take you?

    1. We have a month booked in Adairsville, Georgia, at an RV park that is set on a golf course. We get free golf since we are staying a month.

We are keeping November and December loose, to do the holidays with both sides of our family, and then we have places booked, a month at a time, at various places for the spring.

Some places, especially in the South during the winter, book up pretty early, and we have learned we're going to have to get better at planning. We're both kind of "fly by the seat of your pants" kind of people, and this lifestyle, for certain areas, takes advanced planning!!

    2. Wait, not a month in Adairsville. A month in Americus, Georgia!

  2. Made me chuckle, planning ahead. In Europe it's a standing joke but also a truth that it doesn't matter how early you go out to the pool, to reserve a sunbed lounger, the German visitors will have go there before you! After visiting Ellis Island and seeing the numbers of early immigrants with Germanic origins, you'll have to get up pretty early to get booked in! 😀
